Standing underneath the shower he felt the intense heated blasts of water slapping his face. He breathed slowly as the water cascaded across his body. Sighing he put his hands out and hunched over in the shower, the water pouring across his back. Shaking his head he turned the tap off and stepped out of the glass box.
Grabbing a towel he quickly dried himself off and wrapped it around his waste. Slipping into a pair of boxers he put on his usual clothes, a pair of black jeans and a black muscle shirt. Looking at himself in the mirror he dried off his black hair before swiping a few strands out of his face. His messy hair lay flat on his head as he stepped from the bathroom into the cooler air of the apartment.
Walking down the steps he made his way to the kitchen where he could smell the coffee. Grabbing a mug he poured the black liquid into it and stared at it. Walking over to the counter that lay in the middle of the kitchen he sat on one of the stools and set his cup down.
Watching the liquid he moved his hand and put his finger on the very top of it. In a matter of seconds the coffee froze over. Staring at it he put his hand on the side of the mug and it slowly returned to the liquid form. Closing his eyes he hunched over the coffee and sipped at it. He hadn't slept in three days, not since that had happened.

Slowly climbing the stairs, his cane rapping against the metal railings, he thought idly of Kayne. He hadn't seen him in two weeks, which means that Kayne would still think Denton as dead. He thought for a moment if this was a mistake.
Wrapping his jacket around him a little tighter as someone opened the door, a freezing breeze flowing into the stank atmosphere of the stairwell. Muttering a short hello he continued to climb the stairs until he reached their floor.
Stepping out into the hallway he was greeted with a breeze of fresh air, heated to keep people warm. He assumed that the landlord finally got around to putting heaters on the floors. Slowly approaching their door he leans quietly against his cane waiting.
Staring at the door, he thought about his friend inside, and whether this was a mistake. He always hated burdening his friends with thing's, but Kayne was his best friend, and there are things that he must know, besides, Kayne would eventually see Denton walking around, Seeing's how they both work in the same cubicle together.
Leaning up, he removed the hidden spare key from a crack in the wall above the door frame. Unlocking the door, he walked in as quietly as he could, locking the door behind him, before walking to the kitchen entrance, looking at Kayne for a moment, "Hey".

Hunching over the coffee he sighed, his breath coming out in a faint mist. Ever since he had found out his ability, he had had cold breath that showed in a mist. The thicker the mist, the higher his distress or anger.
It had been almost four days since he met the man called Cyrus Petrelli, it had been almost four days since he killed the man called Cyrus Petrelli. While he knew that it he was to blame for killing his best friend, his stomach churned with an uneasiness. He had wanted to be a Hero, someone to save the world, he hadn't wanted to take lives.
Swallowing hard he remembered how he hasn't even hesitated, he hadn't given it a second thought. His first instinct was to kill him, to pierce his heart with a spike of ice. Sighing he looked down and blinked as his coffee had frozen over yet again.
As he heard the sound of the door he looked up at the lock being unlocked. Staring at the kitchen entrance his mouth dropped open at the man that stood there. It was the man he had just avenged, the man who was supposed to be buried. Blinking he said slowly. "Denton... You're... Back?"

Standing silently at the entrance, he scratched the back of his neck, leaning on his cane. Looking at his friend's confused face, he smiled slightly. There had been a few thing's he had missed, and seeing his friend was one of them.
"Yeah, It's a long story...Let's just say, I met another one of Us," Walking over he jumped up and sat next to his friend. He looked at the frozen coffee, frowning, "What's wrong?"
As long as Denton had known Kayne, he always fidgeted with something when something was wrong, and ever since Kayne had discovered his power, he had switched from fidgeting to idly freezing things. Denton now had a sixth sense for when his friend was troubled, and he could see it was something potentially serious.
Standing back on the ground, he leant against the cupboard opposite Kayne. He watched his friend in thought, patiently waiting his reply.

Staring at him he smiled slightly as he saw his friend smirk. Denton had always enjoyed confusing him, and it was at that moment he realized it really was his friend. Smiling as Denton sat next to him he listened as he said that he met another one like them. His eyes widened for a second until Denton saw the frozen coffee.
Sighing as he asked what was wrong he scratched the back of his head. "I... I met the man who killed you." Looking up at Denton he saw a hint of shock in his eyes for he continued. "Cyrus Petrelli... He had power, just like us, and he admitted to killing you after I questioned him."
Balling his hands into fists he took slow breaths, his breath now visible as a thick mist. Taking a moment he continued. "And he tried to kill me, but I reacted first. And without thinking... I killed him." Closing his eyes he relaxed his hands and said sharply. "But he deserved to die, for committing such an act."

Standing there he watched his friend, listening to his word's carefully. As Kayne spoke the name's of his killer, his eye's widened, an anger filling within him. He kept his calm demeanour until his friend had finished speaking.
Staying silent a moment, he thought on what his friend had said, and what had happened. His cane shook for a moment before rupturing into hundreds of splinters. Denton's anger had gotten the better of him and he lost control for a moment. Looking quickly at his friend he grinned stupidly, "Whoops..." Lifting his hand slighty, he looked at the remainder of his cane, the handle and a few idle hanging splinters.
Sighing, he lifted a hand at the remains of his cane. Thinking for a moment before looking at his friend, "I've learnt some new tricks.." Looking back at the shattered remains, he concentrated on his aim, before letting go.
The splinters jumped to life, dancing around a whirlpool of gravity, pushing other pieces out of the way, resorting themselves. Slowly the increase the speed of rotation. Watching his friend's face he grinned stupidly, before whispering sharply, "There" Upon his word the shards snapped together quickly, suddenly a whole again. Not a single piece out of place, he smiles, spinning it between his fingers, holding it out to Kayne.
Smiling for a moment, his mind then trailed back to what was at hand. Kayne had killed his killer, or so he thought...

Watching his friend he noticed the subtle twitch of his eyebrow and knew he was angry about something. Staring at him he jumped as the cane shattered and he knew instantly it was bad. Swallowing hard he opened his mouth to say something before he was struck speechless.
He watched as the splintered pieced gathered themselves up and began to shape the cane. Hearing him speak he smiled as the cane snapped back together. Shaking his head he smiled and took the cane as Denton passed it to him.
Twirling it in his fingers he gripped the middle before passing it over to Denton. Smiling the showoff in him picked up the frozen coffee mug and held it in his palm. "I've learned a few tricks as well." Grinning he focused his mind on the coffee. Shaping the molecules the ice quickly became coffee again. It bubbled for a moment before it slowly became an invisible vapor.
Smiling proudly he closed his eyes and concentrated on pulling the vapor back from the air. Taking a slow breath the liquid coffee began filling the cup, in a minute the cup was full with steaming hot coffee again. Setting it down he turned to Denton and said softly. "So, you going to tell me what's wrong?"

Smilling at his friend, the usual showoff kid in him sprouting out, he grinned stupidly again as he watched. Smelling the hot coffee, he had a sudden urge for one. He walked to the kettle without a word and began to make a coffee.
Stopping what he was doing at Kayne's words, he thought for a moment. He knew this would devestate his friend, and possibly break him. He turned, the coffee mixing itself behind him. He sighed before he began to speak.
"Two months ago I met a guy who told me he knew what I could do. We had coffee a few times and spoke about it. About a month ago we met up at that old warehouse I bought for us to train in. I was meant to show him what I could do. It turns out he could do the same thing. I thought then that, there might be more with our powers. It turns out he absorbs powers."
"About 3 nights later we met again there, he brought a friend. He said that this guy had the same ability as him. I got an odd feeling from his guy, I shown the guy what I could do and that was it. The guy I met was Cyrus, he then left, saying he had to some other business to attend to.", he paused to let it sink in, "When he left, the other guy...well he lost it. He..well he tried to cut open my head. I pulled him under the water and then made a run for it."
Sitting down next to Kayne he sighed for a moment, "I never saw his face, I call him the Man in Black. I assume its the same guy you saw when we were at work the first time you learn you could freeze stuff. He has an ability to control people's mind's, and make them think other thing's." Putting a hand on his friends shoulder, he spoke the last bit without stopping, "Two nights before I was shot, Cyrus called me and told me he was being brainwashed, before he snapped back into the spell."
"The man who killed me was not Cyrus, he was merely a puppet to take the blame. It was the Man In Black." His words fell silent as he watched his friend's reaction.

Watching Denton move to the coffee pot he watched him make a coffee. Waiting for a response he stiffened at his friends unusually dark tone and swallowed hard. This was not going to be good news.
His eyes widened as Denton told him of another man who could do what he could. He nodded as he said that he absorbed powers, listening intently. Ever since he had found out about Denton and came out with what he could do, he was always eager to be able to talk about it. It was an amazing thing, and it could be argued that they were the next step in Evolution.
Listening as Denton explained how he met with yet another person with the same ability he swallowed hard. His friends tone was getting softer and darker, which meant he was hesitant to speak it. His body went rigid as he heard that the man Denton met was Cyrus, and how Cyrus's friend had attacked Denton.
Swallowing hard he heard his friend sit down and he was stiff, listening to him faintly. Hearing the description of the man his mind went back to the day in the office, to the fear he felt when he saw the man, the sheer terror that ran through his veins and froze him on the spot. Hearing a description of the Man in Black's ability he went stiff again at his friends hand.
He barely heard the next words, his mind was starting to shut them out. Hearing how Cyrus had been brainwashed, and how he had been a puppet his eyes slowly went wide, as if with fear. Hearing how he had killed the wrong man he started to breath slower.
He had killed an innocent person. While he was still not okay with having killed Cyrus when he thought that he was guilty for killing Denton. Learning that he had been innocent, and manipulated into being killed it struck him hard. The coffee froze up instantly, even the coffee in the pot.
His eyes were almost wet with tears as he whispered the words. "What kind of hero am I." Balling his hands into tight fists he closed his eyes, not noticing the thin sheet of ice that was spreading throughout the counter.

Ignoring the now freezing temperature, Denton put his arm around his friend and squeezed him slightly. He knew he should tell Kayne what happened when he returned, he should, and so he would, in time. For now he had one thing he had to tell his friend.
"When I returned, the man who did it introduced me to a number of people with abilities. They told me of thing's that have happened, thing's happening, and thing's that will happen. They told me of a catastrophe that will occur, not long from now, that will kill million's of people. They told me of known people who would be involved in this. Cyrus was one of them. They told me that in the future, you would kill Cyrus. You have done nothing wrong but done something you will do, sooner. Although he was innocent now, Cyrus will have learnt to resist the brainwashing. He would then have joined the Man in Black."
Taking a deep breath, the cold air chilling. He nudged his friend in the ribs, "Can you please stop this, I really want that coffee." He grins at his friend, pointing at the now frozen coffee pot.

Feeling his friends arm around him he clenched his eyes tightly shut. Swallowing hard he listened in. Hearing that he was introduced to people like them who knew things greater then they did he began to slowly calm down. Hearing of a catastrophe his eyes widened and he looked at him.
It was as if his faith had been restored. This was a way to redeem himself. It was like a gift from some divine power, a mission of redemption. He had made up his mind then, he would stop this catastrophe, he would save those millions of lives.
Listening he blinked as Denton explained that Cyrus would have sided with the Man in Black he chewed his bottom lip. Even if he would have become evil, it was still a human life. His faith had not changed and he would still try and stop this.
Chuckling as his friend made a joke he nodded. Calming himself down the liquids returned to their boiling temperatures, and the ice sheeted on the counter faded into the air. Sighing he waited for his friend to return to the counter, he patiently sipped his coffee. Once his friend had returned to set his cup down and stared at the liquid. "I've made up my mind..." Closing his eyes he said softly. "I'm going to stop that catastrophe."

Smiles at his friend, he stood up and made his coffee. He knew that Kayne's mind would be racing now, thinking of things he must do to prepare. Thinking quietly to himself, wishing he will not have to explain anything to Kayne about the next few days.
Walking over to the counter he looks at his friend for a moment, "Your going to have to begin training. If you are going to do what you say you are. I will help you, There are some things I can help you with, and some idea's I have that I would like you to try."
Lifting his cup to his mouth he quickly downs the coffee, no burning, no feeling, just liquid trailing down his throat. He chuckled, knowing how cliche it was, and mumbled a few words from the song in Buffy, Walk through the Fire.

Hearing Denton's words he nodded. He had already decided to start training again, simply to get better control over his powers, but now he wished he had started a week ago. It was going to be difficult, and he was going to need to find out just how much time he had, and even more details about this catastrophe.
As Denton said he had idea's a smile came to his face. He had a few idea's himself that were hoping to be very promising. He had already practiced it several times, and was become familiar with it, but had yet to master it. "I have a few idea's... And..." His voice trailed off as he remembered the man.
The man who told him to seek out Cyrus Petrelli. He had been old, and he had an ability as well, all be it an ability that he could no longer use or control very well. He had given Kayne some information about what he could do that had proven very interesting, and had brought several new theories to mind. "There was a man, he gave me some theories I'd like to try out, sometime soon." He said in a solid and firm voice. He was serious about saving the world.

Nodding he smiled at Kayne. He knew he would be excited, with the idea of becoming a hero. Denton, although already far more powerful then the last time Kayne had seen him, still had a few thing's he needed to work on. Of course he needed to learn how to control his power more, so that his cane incident wouldn't happen again, on a larger scale.
Closing his eyes, he thought deeply about what he saw only 3 days ago. Some of the thing's he forgot, but somethings, will never leave him. Shuddering at the thought, he opened his eyes and looked at the clock, shaking his head.
"Your never late for work, you best not be making it a first today. Its already 8:30" nodding to the clock, he looked at his friend. Amongst all the thing's that have happened, and yet to come, he still didn't want Kayne's personal world to be affected.
"Hurry up and get going, I suppose they have marked me down as dead?"

Staring at the coffee cup he slowly rotated the mug on the counter, watching the liquid move around inside. Focusing his mind on the liquid he pulled two small beads of coffee out of the mug and rotated them in the air. Smiling at the amazing amount of control he slowly let them drop back into the mug.
Looking at his friend when he said he had to go to work he chuckled and shook his head. Sipping his coffee he said softly. "I haven't been to work in four days. They gave me time off, stress leave." Smiling he said in a more cheerful voice. "Besides, I'd miss today even if I wasn't off. I mean, your best friend only comes back from the dead once right?"
Chuckling he downed the coffee in a single gulp, controlling the temperature as it went down, making sure it didn't burn him. Putting the mug in the sink he grinned and grabbed his long black leather trench coat from the hanger near the entrance to the kitchen and pulled it on. "Come on, let's go then. We don't have time to waste sitting around drinking coffee." Grinning he leaned against the wall and waited for his friend to come with him, for training.
